Global health and well-being are important sustainability goals. The Antibiotics platform initiated the Indo-Swiss Antimicrobial Resistance Innovation Dialogue, which took place in Bengaluru, India, in October 2023. Platform leader Markus Seeger (University of Zürich) was part of a delegation of key opinion leaders from India and Switzerland. Together they discussed how to improve the sustainable use of antibiotics, particularly in low- and middle-income countries such as India where resources for surveillance and diagnostic testing are limited. In parallel, Seeger described research into alternative antibiotics that harness the immune system to fight infections. Unfortunately, the current economic framework is insufficient to ensure the development of novel antibiotics at the scale we will need them in the years to come, also in developed countries such as Switzerland.
