The XVI annual Biotechnet Summer School, in cooperation with the first Ulysseus COMPASS Summer School & Researchers Workshop on Food, Biotechnology & Circular Economy, was held from September 12th to 15th, 2022 at MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® in Innsbruck. With over 150 participants, the four-day event was a complete success!
For more than 15 years, the Biotechnet summer school on advanced biotechnology has been held in alternance at different university locations: UNIPA (University of Palermo), FHNW (University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland), HES-SO (University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland), ZHAW (Zurich University of Applied Sciences) and the MCI | The Entrepreneurial School®. All universities are members of the Biotechnet Switzerland network. New this year was students and scientists from the European University of Ulysses taking part in the summer school, further increasing its reach and internationality.
Over four days, more than 50 lectures on different topics took place, ranging from topics such as food technology, medical biotechnology, molecular and cell biology to circular economy. Lecturers from 14 universities and companies presented their current research to colleagues and students in half-hour presentations. The breaks were used to exchange ideas and get to know each other better.
During the career workshop, students explored potential career paths and got to know exciting institutions and companies: Swiss Biotech Association, MCI Career Services, Roche Diagnostics GmbH, Dr. Schär AG, VTU Group GmbH, Handl Tyrol GmbH and BASF SE. In parallel, researchers and lecturers took part in a COMPASS Researcher Workshop to discuss ideas and collaborations for upcoming Horizon project calls.
Of course, there was enough time to get to know Innsbruck and its surroundings in the glorious late summer weather. The inspiring, exciting content of the lectures, the enthusiasm for science and the new networks and contacts that have emerged cannot be put into numbers.
