    Since its foundation in 2001, Biotechnet members have executed hundreds of successful projects with industry and other research partners. Here are a few highlights from 2022-2023 featured in the Swiss Biotech Reports 2023 and 2024.

    Swiss Biotech Report 2023: Effective solutions for global challenges

    Reduction of animal experimentation

    • Alentis Pharmaceutical and FHNW: Identifying mechanisms to treat liver fibrosis using three-dimensional cell culture systems.
    • Anjarium Biosciences and ZHAW: Generating a novel exosome-based method for drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier.

    Gender health

    • Ava fertility tracking bracelet developed in collaboration with CSEM
    • MOMM Diagnostics test to detect pre-eclampsiad, developed in collaboration with CSEM and FHNW

    Antibiotic resistance

    • Resistell and Prof. Gilbert Greub (Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois - CHUV): Investigation of nanomotion-based technology for rapid antibiotic susceptibility testing.
    • leadXpro and Prof. Markus Seeger (UZH): Sybodies for antibiotics drug discovery.
    • BioVersys and Dr. Richard Kammerer (Paul Scherrer Institute - PSI): Development of early lead-like molecules targeting a bacterial transcriptional regulator to treat infections caused by the Gram-negative pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii.

    Circular economy and sustainability

    • INGREEN: safe, bio-based, high-quality ingredients produced from underused food, pulp and paper by-products. FHNW.

    Swiss Biotech Report 2024: Reliable partners beyond borders

    • CSEM: EECONE and SUSTRONIC European projects. Durable technologies for in vitro diagnostic tests and dedicated electronics, including co-friendly batteries, wireless power management, compostable and biodegradable material, green biochemical sensors.
    • FHNW Biomanufactuing bleed recycling technology to reuse culture medium and increase yield in perfusion processes.
    • ZHAW Synthesis of anthocyanins, a plant pigment with several uses in the cosmetic and food industry.
    • FHNW FuturEnyzme European Project: applying enzyme supramolecular engineering to lipases and esterases to make them suitable for manufacturing in laundry, personal care, and textile products.
    • HES-SO Bioplate: Bioprinting PHB car parts and treating them enzymatically before electroless metal plating.
    • FHNW Terminus European Project: Embedded enzyme that helps delaminate multilayer packaging so that its individual components can be recycled.
