Biotechnet's 5th annual meet-up will take place on January 27, 2027 in Basel.
The focus of this edition will be Women's Health, featuring invited experts in the areas of oncology, cardivascular, and brain health. Their talks will extend beyond bikini medicine - looking at how sex and gender affect various aspects of health, disease, diagnosis, and treatment.
The event also aims to build bridges between this important topic and Biotechnet's thematic platforms. Platform leaders will give short presentations on how their technologies and women's health intersect:
Green chemistry and sustainable biotech: how contaminants in our environment affect women differently
Stem cells and regenerative medicine: prevention and treatment of perinatal brain damage
Data science: gender bias in algorithms and data, gender-specific biomarkers, precision oncology
Antibiotics: differences in infections and the immune system
In vitro diagnostics: why women are generally under-diagnosed
Tissue engineering for drug development: cell and tissue models including respective cell types andfemale-derived cell models
The event will bring together Biotechnet members, academic researchers, and industry representatives who are investigating these topics or want to learn more. An extended coffee break as well as a networking apéro will allow participants to make new connections and discuss potential collaborative R&D projects.
