Biotechnet’s Green Chemistry and Sustainable Biotechnology platform supports the development of Switzerland’s industrial biotechnology sector by promoting sustainable, resource-efficient, and circular approaches in life sciences and bioprocessing. The platform brings together expertise in green chemistry, bioeconomy, circular economy, and sustainable biotechnology to advance innovative solutions for industry and society.
Our goals include strengthening the Swiss circular economy and bioeconomy, supporting the transition from fossil-based to renewable and bio-based resources, and contributing to more sustainable value chains in biotechnology, chemistry, and life sciences. In line with the principles of green chemistry, the platform aims to foster processes and products that reduce waste, minimize environmental impact, improve energy and resource efficiency, and enable safer and more sustainable production systems.
Our technological areas of focus include enzymes, biocatalysis, biomaterials, bio-based chemicals, bioenergy, and the valorization of renewable resources and side streams. Process efficiency, resource usage, waste reduction, life-cycle thinking, and the integration of circular concepts are important considerations in our projects.
The platform is newly formed and will host its first meeting in 2026.
To participate in this platform, please contact Marco Rupprich or Manfred Zinn.
The platform was created in 2026 as a merger between the former Bioresources and Biocatalysis platforms. This merger reflects the growing importance of integrated approaches that combine biotechnology, green chemistry, bio-based innovation, and circular economy principles to support a more sustainable industrial biotechnology landscape in Switzerland.
